A favor... Seen me speak? Write a short testimonial?

Posted by Mike Volpe on Fri, Jan 30, 2009

I'm looking to do more speaking this year, and part of that is showing other people that I am in fact a good speaker.  And the best way to do that short of having them watch me give a live presentation is to get other people who have seen me speak give a testimonial.

So, if you have seen me speak and liked my presentation, I am asking you to give a short testimonial.  You have 3 options:

  1. Leave a recommendation on my LinkedIn profile (preferred)
  2. Leave a comment on this blog article below
  3. Leave a wall post on my Facebook profile

I'll choose a few of the best ones to publish on this website and will link back to you as well.

Thanks!

For those of you looking for some useful content and want to decide if I actually am a good speaker, here is a video of a "Website Redesign Tips" presentation I gave.

I have been on a few speaking panels with Mike and he always has something insightful to add to the discussion. He speaks from personal experience and has a great way of turning the seemingly complex world of online marketing into practical applications.

I am a regular watcher in the UK of Hubspot.tv on which Mike is a co-presenter.

Mike's presentation is both informal and informative. He engages the attention of the viewer through his clear and insightful commentary on all things marketing. His presentation style also translates very well to the UK as well as the US viewer.

Hi Mike,

I've seen quite a few of your presentations, and overall I think that you're a very effective public speaker. You have a great presence and project a sense of authority when it comes to internet marketing.

I've also had the opportunity to use the Hubspot software in conjunction with one of our clients. I've personally seen the benefits of the tools and tactics that you speak about.

A couple of tips that I can offer...
• When you're making a key point within your presentation, consider pausing for a moment. This will allow a brief minute for reflection and for your point to sink in. Everyone makes a different emotional connection with what you will have to say, and this will help it register with each listener.

• Tell a story. People relate to a story that is humorous or connects with another emotion. You'd also be surprised just how often your story will be retold when an attendee relates what they've learned to a colleague or friend.

• Your presentations rely on quite a bit of slides. Try to find ways to communicate the information from the slides without reading the bullet points. I've found Apple's keynote presentations at MacWorld and other shows - particularly the ones by Steve Jobs - a great example of this.

• If/when rehearsing, focus a great deal of energy on your body language. Do your best to slow down your actions so that they are conveyed as smooth and deliberate. This is something that happens with time, and if you over-rehearse, it will likely be seen as contrived.

I've never had the opportunity to see your presentations in person. If I ever hear that you're in my neck of the woods so to speak - I'll be putting it at the top of my list. Please keep us all updated as to any upcoming engagements.
