Lawyers Shut Down IMU?

Posted by Mike Volpe on Wed, Jun 02, 2010

EDIT: Please note that this post is associated with an Alternate Reality Game -- it is not real, it's for fun! Find out more here. We hope you will play along and solve the mystery.

I am unable to comment on this or offer anythig besides the facts (at this time).  All of you however are able to speak freely in the comments or other places online.

Below is a letter asking us to shut down IMU, the free marketing education community.  At this time, we have complied, and shut down the InboundMarketing.com website.

Here is a video Rebecca made explaining it and a link to where you might be able to help.

Well I'm not sure what the plan is, but as the trail of unusual clues suggested, this whole thing is a joke. I'm not sure what kind of inbound marketing technique this is, but there is no cease and desist.

The lawyer and company both have horrible web sites that would take an hour to make, which is not a reason on its own, but they are also registered with the same domain registration, and even served off the same godaddy servers, suggesting they were registered about the same time. They also have no real content or actual contact information. Even more revealing is the copy of the lawyers website that can be found on the Kronus domain. Why would the lawyer's personal website files be copied onto the domain of a client!?!?

This is clearly so shady that there would be no reason for HubSpot to actually respond.

Also interesting that there are no comments here...is this comment about to be deleted for revealing the obvious truth!?

I agree with Erik. Looking online for anything on Kronus and all I could find was a bad website trying to promote marketing services. Could this be the same Kronus Media Inc.? Quite confusing that Hubspot would take down IMU based on this unless there is more to the story than I can find.

I think Mike is the messenger. Not, as Bush would say, the decider.

I wonder what kind of trade secrets they are talking about, when most of the information shared on IMU can also be found on other blogs maintained by the IMU professors and Kronus can not claim ownership of their brain childs too. I am really upset about it, especially as IMU has helped many people understand the new world of Social Media Marketing and get grasp of new tools without asking for anything in return! Please let us know what goes on and how we can help out. IMU has been a great resource and I guess everyone will want it to grow and flourish.

Is this real? Wouldn't that be one of Hubspot's great marketing tricks?! ;-)
